The technology field has become really big around the world, but women still have a lot of trouble getting into it and moving up. This is what is happening in Nepal too, where women are a part of the people who work in technology. Some groups that are trying to help are teaching women how to code and giving them chances to be leaders.
In Nepal women do not have jobs in the technology field. This is because of things like what people expect from them having to take care of their families and not being able to use technology or go to school in some areas. Groups like Women Leaders in Technology and Nepali Women+ in Computing are helping women by teaching them how to code, giving them fellowships, and helping them get better at their jobs.
This is not a problem in Nepal. Around the world, women are a small part of the people who work in technology, even in places like the United States and Europe. It is even harder for women to get jobs in engineering and to be leaders.
Some people are trying to change this. They are having events where only women can come and make technology, and they are teaching women how to use computers. Groups like UN Women are helping with these events. These events are really important for women who do not have ways to learn about technology or meet people who can help them.
International
Globally, there are programs like the International Telecommunication Union's Girls in ICT Day that are trying to get girls and young women to think about working in technology. These programs are trying to make it fair so that everyone has a chance to learn about technology.
Challenges
There are still a lot of challenges for women who want to work in technology. In Nepal and all around the world women do not get paid as much as men; they do not have flexible work schedules; they do not have people to guide them; and they are not encouraged to study science and math. All of these things make it hard for women to get into the technology field and stay there.
To make things fair for women in technology, we need to do more than just teach them how to code. Women need to be able to go to school, have workplaces that support them, have people to guide them, have chances to be leaders, and feel confident that they can have long-term careers in technology. The technology field needs women, and women need to be able to succeed in the technology field. Women in technology are important. We need to support women in technology.
