During the war of Kurushetra there were use of deadly weapons and wicked strategies. One of the deadliest battle formations was formation of Chakravyuha.
Arjun was the greatest war hero of Panadavas. Lord Krishna himself drove his horses and took part as his chariot driver in the war of Mahabharata and recited Bhagavad Gita. When son of Kunti and Arjuna, Abhimanyu was conceived Arjjuna tells about Chakravyuha. But Kunti falls asleep so Abhimanyu has idea of enteringthe Chakravyuha has no idea of breaking it.
During the war of Mahabharata Karna who fights from Kauravas takes Arjuna away from the battlefield so that Abhimanyu is alone on the battlefield. So the warriors from the side of Kauravas take Abhimanyu inside Chakravyuha. Abhimanyu fights giving his best but the wicked strategy cannot be broken as Abhimanyu has no idea of breaking it. The formation was used in the battle of Kurukshetra by Dronacharya who became the commander-in-chief of Kauravas after the fall of Bhisma Pitamah.
Formation of Chakravyuha
This battle formation is unbroken from the outside and can only be broken from the inside. It is a multilayered formation. Chakravyuha resembles a labyrinth of multiple defensive walls. The warriors in each position would be increasingly in a tough position to fight against. The formation begins with two soldiers standing back to back with another set of soldiers standing back to back with another set of soldiers standing at the distance of three hands drawing up seven circles culminating in the end which is the place where the captured person is to be kept. The number of soldiers that can be deployed in the size of Chakravyuha is calculated as per estimate. The last soldier of the formation gives a signal of having completed Chakravyuha. On the signal, every soldier who has been outward turns inward to face the opponent. Then the captured enemy realizes he is captured.
It is said everything is fair in war. But the formation of Chakravyuha to trap Abhimanyu taking his father Arjuna away was an act of cowardice and injustice. But at the end of battle Pandavas win the battle conveying message that good will always win over evil despite cowardliness and wickedness.
